Every time I sit down with a client for marketing or a family for a budgeting session, I play a little game where I ask "why" five times. It’s a trick I picked up in the corporate world to really get to the heart of things.
So, let me ask you: why is your business or personal finance journey important to you?
Why? (Give me the first thing that comes to your mind.) But why? (I'm digging deeper because I don’t want to just hear about the dream mansion.) I personally do this every month with my own goals. When they start to sound too surface-level or unclear, I pause and regroup.
I’m not mean, but when it comes to budgets and business, I tell it like it is. Not to hurt your feelings or be insensitive, but to challenge you to think differently. Ask yourself "why" five times, dig deep, and then think about the actions you'll take. We often see social media glamorizing side hustles and businesses, but rarely do we talk about the mental capacity needed to navigate a business. Most people want to run a business but have no idea how a business really works. They’re too busy romanticizing and switching strategies without actually doing the work to get the results. Just because Jane sold a million on TikTok doesn’t mean you can skip making your budgets and priorities. The math doesn’t lie.
